STYLING:
Just out of the shower I use Curl Keeper by Curly Hair Solutions . It costs about $14 for a bottle or trial sizes available for about $6 or so, check online. It’s important not to towel dry your hair and to keep it pretty wet (almost dripping) when you put the product in. Curls need moisture so it’s important to keep the water in with the product (which is water based as well)
After Curl Keeper is in, I put in one of the 2 products below (I like to alternate):
Angell gel by DevaCurl which is a light styling gel (bottle is closer to $30 but it's a huge bottle) and has a gel-like consitency
OR
Confident Coils Styling Solution by Jessicurl which is a very liquidy cream (available in trial size); check Jessicurl website
On very humid days I also spray Gelebration Spray by Jessicurl while my hair is drying since it seals the curls and prevents frizz. They have another product called Awe Inspiring Spray which is meant to spruce up curls the next day or after workout, and it's pretty good too. I often use plain old water to achieve the same result but the Awe Inspiring works for humidity whereas the water does not.
I leave the product(s) in for about 5-10 minutes then I scrunch my hair with microfiber drying mitts (sold at Delineation hair salon, $20). The mitts are like using your hands but with a microfiber towel that won’t cause frizz. Amazing.
I then air dry or use the diffuser (important that it’s on a low heat setting and low power setting)
WASHING:
Jessicurl makes a good curly hair shampoo for fine hair (Gentle Lather Shampoo) and conditioner (Aloeba Daily Conditioner). See online for trial sizes.
I also like using Goldwell’s Curl Definition Light Conditioner for fine curly hair – available at most Beauty Supply stores (the chain) for about $12 per bottle. The Goldwell Shampoo (Curl Definition for Light Curly Hair) is also a good one and I used it for years. Got bored and am now trying the Jessicurl and Brocato in trial sizes but I'd go back to it for sure.
Brocato also makes a great shampoo called Curl Karma Energizing Shampoo. The brand is from Brazil and it tends to be a little more pricey. I got a trial size of the Brocado at my salon as part of a kit which included their conditioner, a hairspray (random to put that in a curly hair trial kit but anyway) and a styling lotion which I don't love (prefer the Confident Coils by Jessicurl).
